In Latin it is simply called Canticles. The Hebrew title is an expression Song of Songs, with a superlative meaning “the most excellent song”. In the Hebrew Bible, Song of Songs is part of a collection read on the festive days of the Jewish calendar. The other books in this collection are Ruth, Esther, Ecclesiastes and Lamentations.
